On Accident. No Accident

Morning Musing on Forcing Non-Writers to Write

Luvlies, Good morning. Long time no chat. I have not been ruminating in the morning like I used to, because I’m really conscious of what I’m ingesting and what I’m putting out there on this here innernet. I even took a break from Substack (aka Blogger 2026) because the content is, dare I say it, amateur at best.

A lot of the creators I like can’t write very well. Honestly, I’m not expecting them too, because they’re not writers. But it’s turning me off their content nonetheless. It’s hard when you realize your imaginary, internet friends are kinda thick. You’re reading through their posts and thinking, ‘This is basic thought’, not some insightful, researched, or even a personal account of what has happened. There is a monetization pressure to diversify, but it can’t be good for your brand if you’re writing ‘On accident’ in your posts. I just can’t contribute to that kind of social economy.

Self-awareness is not lost on me either. I’m not a writer, nor am I pretending to be. I do enjoy reading (a lot) and learning as much as I can from experts with expertise. And no, I’m not sitting at my computer fashioning myself a ‘Carrie’ clacking away on her 1st gen MacBook. YACK.

I have to give people more grace.

Or do I?

I guess my sentiment stems from the death of the Cambridge professor on Friday, who was accused and CLEARED of plagiarism, then accused of plagiarism again by some runt-of-the-litter, failed eugenicist, who then used this situation to amplify his raycyst views of Black people in academia.

We’re going after the academics now, with fine tooth comb. The people who choose to spend their every waking hour with words and deep in research. We’re pulling 200-300 words from a 80,000-100,000 word PhD, scrutinizing a poorly sited passage, and dismissing the entire work. Where is the grace there?

I guess my quest continues…

Anyway, I’m working on a longer from, grumpy piece as to why the resurgence of John Steinbeck’s writing is poison for society.

…and that’s time. Still here? Share your pinions down below.

See you later Luvlies!

xoxo Luv Laney Luv
