Full week of life in the Big Toe. Started the week off strong with a second tech interview from the company from last week. I actually enjoyed myself with this one, even though my nerves kicked in and had me stuttering for a moment. It was long and thorough. The set their expectations by speaking positively about the person who previously held the role. Gotta respect a company that hold their employees in high regard.
Community Associations
Later that evening I joined a meeting for one of the community associations I’m a member of. We had the opportunity to speak with MPP Chris Glover about Toronto affordable housing, transit issues and city planning. He revealed some bangers regarding expansion of the transit line and the corruption involved. It’s much worse than any of us could imagine and nobody is talking about it. That’s why it’s important to involve ourselves in community polics and policy making. We tend to focus on the big federal laws created, but it’s the local municipal laws that shape the way we live in a city. I might not be marching on the streets to voice my concerns but I will actively participate in voting and addressing my concerns to city councils and associations.
I’ve recovered enough to (gently) start running again. I miss that mental clarity that a quick jog gives me, even though my body goes into panic mode when I pick-up the pace.
Working with Tech Agencies
Decisions have been made and I’m going back to my old ways of working with tech agencies again. An agent reached out and will forward contracts when they’re available. Tapping into the network of agencies removes the stress from freelancing. No more grumpy interviewers who take your personal experience as an affront to their existence. You only have to deliver the work and you’re done. We can talk about how much you make as a tech agency contractor vs. direct hire (watch the vlog for more details).
For the finale, there was painting even though I’m not happy with what I made…
