The joy I feel right now is wonderful. For those who’ve followed along with my job hunting / freelance lead-gen journey, thank you. What an exhausting experience, non?
The week started off with the big interview with a panel of my future peers and I answered any questions they had regarding my portfolio. Chrome struck AGAIN for the final time. I swear that browser hates me because it cut out the sound and honestly, it’s just so darn unreliable to use. After 90mins, my interview was over. I felt okay about it. I did my best. I put my best foot forward. Yeah, I stuttered and had moments of doubt but it went well.
They called me the next day to offer me the job. WHHHHAAAT!?!?! A permanent position at a major, MAJOR company leading a team of 15. I am excited! This tech job journey has tested my metal. Never has my worth as a human been questioned as much as during this hiring season. Tears, frustration and fear have followed me through these past months. Now I have not one but TWO job offers… and I’m taking them both. One 2-year contract and one full-time perm = $310,000 after bonuses & benefits.
How am I feeling?
Relief is what I’m feeling most. I can now plan, save and recover from the financial blow that was the Pandemic. It should be noted that I never once deviated from myself or accepted less than what I wanted. That is the beauty of being experienced and knowing my worth. I fought off bullies who wanted to reprimand me for speaking up and I removed myself out of interview processes, when the critiques were personal or racially coded.
Yes, un(der)employment is terrifying, but working in an environment that sets you up for failure is 10x worse. Both of these positions are remote, so my snacks and personal bathroom will be near by. A dream situation to work in 🙂
How did I celebrate the good news? Popeyes. Yes, I said that I would reward myself with junk food and I kept my word.
All I can say is look at how quickly a life can turn around.
